Summary: Tsuna decides to not celebrate his birthday this year, but it seems he just can't keep a secret from Hibari to save his life.
Tsuna tapped the end of his pencil nervously at the edge of this notebook. It was October 14th and another day he'd wished he hadn't needed to come to school. Unfortunately, he had a math test he wasn't able to skip at any cost... unless he wanted to almost fail yet another class and answer to Reborn's endless beatings.
Looking over at Yamamoto sitting quietly beside him, Tsunayoshi sighed. How was he not surprised Yamamoto was napping in the middle of class, but still passing with flying colors? Then there was Gokudera, his pencil moving a hundred miles a minute and understanding everything the teacher was going on about. How did he have such smarty-pants friends?
He had been able to keep up the lie to both of them, saying they were both mistaken about his birthday being today and that it wasn't until next month. Somehow it had worked, even to his own disbelief. Unless they were just both humoring him for this own sake, and in that case made him feel like a bad friend. It was just he didn't feel right celebrating his birthday of all things; everyone was so busy lately and he'd spent the greater part of his childhood without birthday parties and only the well-wishes of his parents, what difference did one year make?
The clock at the front of the room clicked by ever so slowly and Tsuna wondered if joining Yamamoto in a nap might be a good idea. Just as the future boss was finding a comfortable position on his elbow, the PA system buzzed over head, causing the classroom to fall silent.
"Tsunayoshi Sawada. Please come to the Disciplinary Committee's office at the end of the period. Tsunayoshi Sawada. Please come to the Disciplinary Committee's office at the end of the period. That is all."
The sound of Kyoya Hibari's monotone voice cracking over the speaker had Tsuna squirming in his seat as his classmates eyes all turned on him. Hibari really needed to stop calling him to his office and let the whole school know in the process.
"What did you do to annoy Hibari this time?" Yamamoto (now awake) leaned in to question his friend, a small smile playing on his lips.
"I- I have no idea..." Tsuna averted his glace quickly, not wanting to answer to Gokudera's obvious glare back at him at that very moment. Neither Yamamoto or Gokudera had any idea about the thing he wasn't even sure he could call a "relationship" with his Cloud Guardian. But he'd be lying if he didn't say he was much too scared of the consequences of either of them finding out than his two friends continuing to have their heads in the sand.
"Psst! Tenth! Psssst!" Gokudera was practicably falling out of his chair to get the brunette's attention with his not really whispered yells. Thankfully for Tsuna, a few words from the teacher and class was back on track and he was easily forgotten once again.
Tsuna ran out of the classroom as fast as he possibly could at the end of class, ignoring Gokudera and Yamamoto completely as he sprinted down the crowed hallway. The sooner he could get to Hibari's office, the sooner he could go back to class and have this day be over. And stopping to talk to Gokudera now would only waste time.
Finally stepping into the office, that at first glace you'd forget it was only for a single student organization, Tsuna stood straight and closed the door behind him. "Hibari, you called for me?"
"Hm." Kyoya didn't look up from his desk, moving his pen across the document with swift stokes before finally placing the item on the wooden desktop. "Tsunayoshi." Hibari sat back in his chair, crossing his arms as he stared at the boy in front of him. "Well, don't just stand there. Come in and sit down." He motioned to the chair sitting in front of the desk and Tsuna took his seat quickly.
"Um, Hibari-"
"Today is October 14th."
"Y-yes..."
"And today is also your birthday, correct?"
"Ah-" Tsuna looked down at his lap and shifted uncomfortably. How did Hibari know? And why did he seem so angry that today was his birthday? It's not like he asked to be born on this specific day! "Yes... today is my-"
"Why wasn't I informed of this by you personally?" Hibari's voice was a strange mixture of anger and... hurt? Was that the right word? Tsuna wasn't really sure, but it wasn't a tone he was familiar with. "We were alone for a perfect amount of time last night for you to disclose something like a birthday to me." The Cloud Guardian sat forward on his hands, awaiting some kind of explanation as to why the stupid herbivore he had decided was worthy enough to be his lover/boyfriend/whatever hadn't bothered to tell him about this. Something as personal as a birthday was of the utmost importance.
"Well... I wasn't going to celebrate my birthday this year. So- so I wasn't telling anyone my birthday was today..." The Vongola boss bit his lip as he looked up to meet Hibari's dark eyes and couldn't read him at all.
"You couldn't even tell me?" Hibari's voice was defiantly angry that time. Tsuna gripped the sides of the chair as he watched the older boy stand, those horrible tonfas in his hands. "I thought I already made it clear that you're to tell me everything, Sawada Tsunayoshi. I don't much like having to stumble upon your birth date by chance..."
Tsuna's throat was closing up and he watched Kyoya Hibari move around the desk to stand in front of him, hands tight around the leather grips of his weapons. "I- I'm sorry Hibari! I didn't think it was important!"
"You're the most important thing to me Tsunayoshi." He almost missed how Hibari's faced softened at such an embarrassing statement for only a second before the guardian stepped forward, his expression hard. "You should at least let me give you your presents. I should bite you to death for being so stupid though."
Hibari's breath tickled Tsuna's neck as a tonfa hit his throat and brought him down onto the floor with a loud 'umph' and gasping for air. The metal was pulled away suddenly and Tsuna watched confused as Kyoya discarded the weapons as quickly as he had picked them up. He didn't dare move as the taller boy let his forehead come in contact with Tsuna's; eyes dark as always.
"You idiot." Hibari whispered as he kissed Tsuna softly, his hands at the sides of the brunette's face as they continued. Tsuna deepened the kiss willingly, trying his best to hold back a moan as Hibari finally pulled away; a satisfied smiled on his face. "Happy birthday."
"T-thank you." Tsuna's face flushed another shade of red and Hibari nuzzled into his future boss' neck, kissing the skin there.
"After school."
"Uh?" Tsuna turned his face the best he could, trying to listen to what the other boy was saying.
"Meet me here after school. I'll take you where ever you want."
"Eh? Are you sure Hibari?" Tsunayoshi watched as his Guardian sat up, leaning on his arms as he smiled faintly.
"The offer is only good for 20 seconds. If you don't-"
"YES! I mean... yes, let's go somewhere together..." Tsuna turned away, blushing once more as Hibari chuckled softly to himself.
"Well hurry and get off my floor then." Kyoya stood, watching Tsuna as he scrambled quickly to join him, brushing off his pants.
"I.. better get back to class then."
"Why don't you stay here for awhile? I can give you more of your presents-"
"N-no! I'll just go back... um. I'll see you later then!" Tsuna ran out of the room quickly, flushing for the millionth time that day. Hibari was just too much for him to handle sometimes!
"Wao~ why is he so amusing Hibird?" Kyoya asked as the small bird landed on his shoulder and only chirped a reply he guessed was the closest equivalent to a laugh.
